THANK YOU ALL for the many ‘Birthday Wishes’ …
It meant much to me … it’s very gratifying … sincerest thanks. :)
Birthday Exercise
Most days I attempt to set new personal records and so should you!!! No matter what it is… if it’s only walking to the next mail box … or another mile or more resistance reps… try to do a little more each time.
Last week I posted on a new high in Jumping Jacks, you can read the post here “Primal Eats and X“, in summary I strove for a ‘record’ that was far above my previous personal record. The intent was to spur me on to new personal highs…
For example : Today I did push ups.
Previous high doing “Maximum Push Ups in 15 minutes” was 227. Ok, that’s a lot of push ups… in 15 minutes. I did achieve a new personal record today… on my 50th birthday and here’s why I think it happened.
1) Doing maximum push ups is both a strength and an intense cardio exercise. Over the last 21 days I’ve been doing much MORE intense cardio … daily sprinting and plyometrics. I feel certain the improved cardio function helped me achieve the new personal record in push ups.
2) Goal Setting – Keep in mind, my previous best was 227 … I really only wanted to beat that number. To help me get there I convinced myself that I could do 240 push ups and that my goal would be to average 80 every 5 minutes. Deep down… I thought I could beat 227 … but did not think I’d reach or exceed 240!!!!
Below was the results of both 1 & 2 above.
Note: I have had two new personal records in June so far. Jumping Jacks 982 in 15 minutes and push ups, 242 in 15 minutes.
What are YOUR personal records??? If none, start some…today! :)
Update on my “Plan of Attack” … today is the 21st day, I’ve been really busy so I’m going to get up early in the morning tomorrow and go run; picture will be taken Saturday morning… I want to compare ‘outside full sun’ pictures and I can’t do that until Saturday. :( If you have no idea what the heck I’m talking about, here’s a series of posts but it’s my plan for achieving 6 pack abs and running a sub 7 minute mile.
